Hey there everyone! So, unfortunately my EVGA GTX 980 Ti Hybrid died on me for the fourth time and I'm tired of issuing RMAs to EVGA just to have another dead unit later down the road. So I am in the market for a new GPU!

I play a lot of sandbox survival games, AAA title fps shooters, etc... I also play at 1440p on a 144hz monitor so I like to make good use of extra frames. As far as quality goes, I prefer performance over quality, as long as it is not horrid. So I think I decided that the 1080 is the card for me, saving an extra $200 instead of getting a 1080 Ti as I just can't justify spending another $750+ on a card right now, and would prefer to wait for Star Citizen till I completely upgrade my rig again whenever the heck that releases.

But basically I wanted to get some feedback from the community here, is this a good card to go with for my preferences? Also, any brand names to avoid?

Currently, I have a Gigabyte GTX 1080 Windforce in my Amazon cart for $499.99, that price is hard to beat compared to any of the other brands/models. I know how to overclock, so I don't want to purchase SC versions and waste unnecessary money.

Current Card I'm Looking at: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IR6LMLO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So what do you all think? I'll post my build below. Thanks!

CPU: Intel i7 6700k (4.8 OC)
CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X61 280mm
Motherboard: ASUS Maximus Hero VIII
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws 4 Series 16gb (2x8) DDR4 2400
Storage: 3TB Western Digital Black, OCZ Vertex 460A 240gb, Samsung 850 EVO 500gb
Video Card: EVGA GTX 980 Ti Hybrid 6gb
Audio Card: ASUS Xonar DX
Power Supply: MKIII Silencer 750w
Case: NZXT H440 Matte Black

Well I don't know if I can justify the price for it, and the ~$500-$600 is my sweet spot for a card at the moment. I really am focused on just getting back into the game right now since I am without a GPU, so I think I'm going to stick with the 1080 and sell it when I decide to upgrade my entire system which I'll build with future proofing in mind.

I've had great luck with Gigabyte- my last 3 cards have all been from them. Currently have the Aorus 1080 Ti Xtreme and it's been great.

Gigabyte, Asus and EVGA have the best reviews rankings on Newegg and obviously you're soured on EVGA. Asus is expensive. I say try the Gigabyte.
