My machine is 980x but its dying with lighroom cc. So my dilemma is this single core speed is best for LR, but what if a year from now stinking adobe fixes the issue of it using multicores ? Which cpu and why? Part of me wants the 1920x then gain the 1700x might be as good for my needs.

1700X is a very potent CPU, unless you need 64 PCIe lanes (doesn't sound like you do) then I'd get that. Also I'm assuming the 1700X is only $20-30 more expensive than the 1700, if it's not for you then you might want to consider the 1700.
