CPU - Intel Core i5-6600k
Motherboard - MSI Z170A PC MATE
Graphics Card - GeForce GTX 1070

Monitor - ASUS VG248QE (x2)

I recently bought a second monitor and a hdmi 2.0 cable. But when I plugged it into my monitor and hit "Detect" in 'Display Settings' it said "Didn't detect another display." The cable is plugged in properly as well as the power supply, and the monitor's on, but yet it still says it couldn't detect.

I've tried restarting, updating my drivers, downgrading my drivers and even updating to the new beta driver but it still doesn't detect the second monitor. I don't know what to do, and any help will be appreciated.

P.S. - My main monitor is using DVI

This image is representative of the back of a typical computer. Inside the red square are typically where your graphic card ports are. Inside the yellow square are your motherboard ports. Both of your displays should be connected to ports from your graphics card (inside the red square).

Test the monitor on another system. You want to make sure the monitor and HDMI cable work. If you can, test your system by connecting the HDMI cable to an HDTV. Eliminate all other possible causes one by one.

I don't know how to tell if it is or not. All I did was plug in the hdmi cable to the monitor and the slot in the back of my pc,

Thank you so much, I didn't notice those ports at first since there was a little plastic thing covering each of them on my computer. But I have my second monitor working now, only problem is that it's in 60 hertz? When it should be in 144?
I bought an hdmi 2.0 cable (this is the exact cable I bought)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NBLBHS8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and it says it supports 144 hertz on 1080p but yet it's maxed out at 60? I know my monitor supports 144 since it's the same monitor as my main. Any ideas?

*To activate 144Hz function (in 2D mode), both DisplayPort (or Dual-link DVI) and a selected graphics card with the latest driver are required. Please kindly contact the service center of your graphics cards companies for further technical supports.

This is a quote from your monitor's web page.

Looks like 144Hz is only supported through the monitor's displayport or dual-link DVI inputs.

So if I get an hdmi to dvi converter and use a dvi cable on the monitors end whilst the hdmi on the computers end it should work in 144Hz?
