Need help with new pc build

Hello friends,

This is my first time building a pc. It is exciting but exhaustive.
These are the parts i came up with:

1. Intel i5 7600k
2. Msi z270 sli plus
3. WD blue 1 tb
4. Cooler master hyper evo 212
5. 16GB ddr4 corsair vengeance lpx 2400mhz
6. Evga 650w G2 Gold
7. Phantex p400 tempered glass
8. Evga Gtx 1070 FTW2

note: i already have a 250gb samsung evo 850 ssd. The chosen CPU is because of the i7 7700k heat issues and the price of i7 6700k. The case, PSU and the cooler are already ordered.

So i want to know is it worth it ti upgrade the Gpu to GTX 1080 FTW2?
Also is the motherboard of choice good? Please keep in mind i can pay more than 150$ for the mobo. Can i use the mobo with 4 ram sticks and evo 212 cooler?
Finally, is there any way to cut costs abit cus my intial price was 1100$ but it got out of hand. I appreciate your assistance in this matter.

Well I am not sure msi really has too many quality control issues anymore. But I will say the asus Z270A has a higher quality and more robust VRM than the MSI board, MSI seems to be slacking on there VRM design for Z170, Z270, and ryzen boards. They are both 8+2 phase, but asus is using better mosfets and voltage regulators in the VRM than msi. I also much prefer asus's UEFI to anyone else's.

I would stop reading so many customer reviews, most of the negative reviews are likely just user error. For example someone leaves a bunch of standoffs under the board, the pc doesn't boot, the first thing they then do is blame the mobo and write a bad review. Try reading some professorial reviews. I have personally never had an issue with an asus...

I would do the following,

upgrade the motherboard to an ASUS z270A or gigabyte 5 Z270

cpu cooler cryorig quad lumi h7

ram to 3000 mhz

the 1080 is the better value for the money thanks to miners.


if you want cost reduce, I would get a ryzen 1600 with a great b350 motherboard like the asus prima x370-A.
this will also give you better peformance for the price.

Thank you and i gipe you dont mind some clarifications.
1. Will the i5 7600k bottleneck the gtx 1080.

2. Is my choice of gtx 1080 ftw2 good?

3. Is ryzen well optimizex for gaming.

4. Is this build future proof somehow?

5. Is overclocking possible?

Btw i have already ordered the cooler master hyper evo 212 so its impossible to cancel now.
Also, i have heard bad reviews on the asus z270-A. I feel more comfortable with th msi z270 sli plus.

I am new to pc building thats why i am unable to judge the companies. And with these reviews, any one would be scared to even think about it.

Might want to hold of a bit coffee lake is around the corner and since games really have started to like more than 4 cores you might want to consider either going ryzen now or coffee lake when it launches.
