I'm planning on building my own PC. Currently I am considering purchasing a factory overclocked gpu, but I have no clue how overclocking works. I'm not the brightest person, so could somebody please explain how overclocking works? I know this sounds dumb, but if I buy an overclocked gpu, would it overheat and kill itself since it is already overclocked? I'm fairly new to this tech and any help would be greatly appreciated!

This is the one I'm looking at right now, If anyone have suggestions, please let me know!

You dont need to worry about factory OCed cards. The card is guaranteed to run at the factory set speeds, no need to worry about overheating or the card killing itself.
You also dont have to worry about doing anything on your end, it runs at the OCed speeds from the get go.
