Is it worth upgrading an Acer Aspire XC-603 with a new SSD?

A friend's parents have an Acer Aspire XC-603 (4GB RAM, Intel Celeron J1900@1.99GHz, 1TB HDD). They find using the computer pretty slow at times, especially when trying to start programs (Chrome, Outlook Express) just after the computer's finished booting.

Using Windows Task Manager I noticed that the HDD was pretty slow, maxing out at 7MB/s but more around 2-3MB/s throughput during the post-login 'slow period'. Obviously the CPU is pretty weak too but might not be the limiting factor since they mostly just do web and email with it.

My question is would replacing the HDD with an SSD be a worthwhile upgrade in a fairly underpowered computer like this? Or would it be better to just recommend they get a new one?

A ssd is always a good move... if they/you feel like cloning the HDD to it. Or better yet, doing a fresh install of the OS and all the programs they use.

But give this a try. Run CCleaner and do the Clean and Registry portions both. Might make a world of difference for them. Run it more than once if it finds a ton of crap it cleans up.
