Hello, I was wondering if upgrading from an i5 2400 to a i7 2600k would be worth it. Would my hp 8300 elite motherboard even allow overclocking? Please advise. Thanks.
Current specs: i5 2400, 16gb ram, Gtx1050 ti

The OEM board will not allow OC'ing. I doubt you'll find any settings you would be allowed to change in the BIOS. But the i7-2600 (non-k) would be a good upgrade if you need more multi-core performance. But your i5-2400 is able to handle the GTX 1050 Ti for gaming just fine. I have a i5-2400/GTX 1050 Ti myself.
