Okay so I was really bored a couple days ago and I have a bunch random things on my desk along with my laptop. For whatever reason I decided to do something really stupid by plugging a stripped USB cable into my laptop and attaching a red and black wire at the end to a 9V battery and it ended up immediately turning the PC off. I think it messed up the battery but I'm not sure what else it could have done to the system and I don't want to buy a new battery and then find out that that wasn't the problem. If someone could help me with this problem or provide advice in any way, I would really appreciate it, I know this was something really stupid and I don't really have the money to buy a new laptop.

Solution
Laptop's battery is least of your problems. USB works on 5v and you sent almost double of that back into computer and most probably burned some circuits.
