No, actually though. Should I wait for 8600k or just get a 7700k now?. I only game. Sometimes stream...dont care too much for it. While I get solid performance doing it, I wouldnt mind having it be 100% lag-free...I currently have a 4690k OC'd to 4.5, a GTX1080, and a 1440p100hz monitor.

So im sort of due for a cpu upgrade..Will 8 series actually be loads awesomer to the point where the i5 will be better in performance than the previous gen i7? (in most scenarios) Cuz if it is, then I will wait like a mofo for 8600k

Just wait until the real world benchmarking results of those Coffee lake are up.
At this point, no-one can really say anything beside those based on rumours.

One thing is for sure, Intel really needs to shape up to face all of those Ryzens.
Intels processor are beaten up so bad in term price/performance by AMD this time, especially those Ryzen 7s.

I have the feeling somehow that Intel still has something in their sleeves and I am really curious to see, what Intel will offer next.

Note: if you already on i7/i5 3xxx, 4xxx, 6xxx or 7xxx, wait don't rush! Things start to get interesting. Intel just got competition again after all these years.

If the Coffee Lake processors are what they are rumored to be, then it might actually be worth the wait. Especially the 6 core i5's are what's interesting. If the prices are similar to Kaby Lake, they'll be quite good actually. It's only a 10 day wait(apparently) before the 'debut', whatever that means. But if they'll be releasing the spec sheet on 21 August, you might just wanna hold on to your horses till then.

If you're considering a 7700k why not consider the 8700k? It'll likely be priced similarly ($350ish) since the 7800x is $400. Seems 8700k would be better suited to your needs and would be a major upgrade from your current i5.

If the single core performance of Coffee Lake matches Kabylake the 8600k should keep up with or even beat the 7700k. Hyper threading at best gives an extra 30% from reviews I have read. Therefore a cpu with 50% more true cores you would hope might match it.

Personally I would wait, its so close now.
