Okay I am really cheesed off because yesturday I spent a lot of money on a product for my pc, I go into my pc to go and download it. My parents tell me we have a new wifi router so I d decide to try and connect it using my wireless adapter which has never not been working. I then have to wait for a windows ten update and I am hit with no option to connect to any wifi routers. I go into device manager and I get a code 10 error this device could not start. Underneath it says the USB device returned an invalid serial number String descriptor. All the drivers are up to date, I uninstalled the windows update to see if that is the problem, nope!, I then Restored my pc to an earlier date, nope! I have searched everywhere and nothing works, I've looked in the registry, doesn't work either. I moved it around some USB ports, uninstalled it and reinstalled it but still nothing!!!!! I don't know if it is my new router or the windows update which has caused me so much stress but I would really like some help please?
It is an 802.11n USB wireless lan card
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks In advance
Regards
Marc

Solution
Windows 10 should get a driver automatically for that adapter, the name is pretty generic though, surprised that it would work then quit unless if has failed.

I don't know how to reply to the person above and I didn't mean to vote down on it sorry. When I go onto ipconfig I get the message no media is detected and after running things like ipconfig/renew and even pinging my default gateway I get zeros on almost everything but I get a 4 on something which doesn't make a difference

If you don;t get an IP address in ipconfig then as far as windows is concerned the wifi adapter is dead or not plugged in. SO, it could have died, it could be it needs a different driver, what is the manufacturer and model # of the wireless?
