Best VPN protocol for gaming?

I got Vypr VPN a few days ago in an attempt to fix my constant ping spikes, and so far it's working really well at smoothing my connection, but I'm curious about the different protocols and their speed.

In the options I can pick OpenVPN 256/160bit, or PTPP 128bit. I'm not concerned at all with security so PTPP being meh in that department isn't an issue.

Seems like PTPP should be fastest given the lower encryption, but according to Vypr OpenVPN is the best performing.

Thoughts?

Yeah, if you have the time, just try both and see how they perform. I think the issue (aside from poorer encryption) is that PPTP uses a standard port (1723) for control packets, meaning its easy for ISPs (or the Chinese government) to figure out it's being used and block or throttle it. OpenVPN's uses ports 443 (same as https - can't throttle it without slowing everyone's web-based email, shopping, and banking) and 1194. But you can change it to any port you want making it easier to bypass blocks and throttling.

Also, the encryption in these things is so slow it's normally used only to exchange a long key for a faster form of encryption. Then the data transfer itself is done using the faster encryption. Least that's how it works...
