Hello

I have a question

Specs

Cpu I7 7700K
I have a single 16 GB DDR4 Stick (2400 mhz)
So today i went to buy a DUAL-KIT x2 8gb (2400 mhz)

The reason for i did this upgrade is cuz im having problems with my 1080 Geforce in overwatch, gears of war 4 my FPS sometimes drop a lot, after of search a lot is because the single-channel is doing a bottleneck on my system.

My question. Can i put togheter the x2 8 gb slots with the 16 gb and i will keep the dual channel? or the single slot memory will eliminate the dual channel of my system?

Solution
Last I checked. Triple channel wasn't a thing.

Its Dual channel and Quad channel (quad meaning 4).

I would not advise using different sizes of ram sticks with each other. It's know to cause issues.

While it might work, may notice more blue screen or memory related crashes.

If you want to ensure compatibility and keep dual channel. Just use the x2 8gb sticks and if you need more buy another 2x 8gb stick for quad channel.

Triple is a thing used on nehalem and westmere as well as other older chipsets. Also quad channel cpus/mobos will run in triple, double, and single depending on how many sticks are used but we just say the max supported channels. The 7700k supports dual but the same still follows on supporting less, ie single. You can use up to 4 sticks but it's still dual channel. A single channel supports 2 sticks. This is why you see dual channel mobos with up to 4 slots.

If you run with 3 sticks, it will still show as dual channel. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/000005657.html#flex Although it should be in flex mode with no paired stick.

I would recommend buying a 16gb stick to go with the 16gb you already have. You wouldn't be removing and having a useless stick. You can always run memtest to check for issues.
