So this morning I tried to play a game and it said my "graphics card was too old to play it", thought that was strange as the 980M is a good graphics card still..then realized everything was set to my default card, and trying to change it or run a program with my 980M gave me the message shown in the picture below.
My default graphics card is an Intel(R) HD Graphics 530, my main graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M, which is the one that isn't working currently.
Yes, it shows up in the Device Manager.

This keeps happening..what can I do?

that is my default graphics card..I actually meant i couldnt reinstall my 980m
I actually ended up pressing show hidden drivers and it reinstalled my 980m
I'm still having the problem of it not being detected, though.

As I said, I was able to reinstall the driver by pressing show hidden drivers, it says it's working properly.

But when I try to change my default graphics processor/choose which graphics processor to run a program with, I get hit with the first image included in the original question.

I would first try making sure you are running most up to date 980m drivers straight from NVida's site.

Also do you ever use a display adapter of any kind? Their software is known for causing issues with Nvidia cards. Check uninstall programs list and look for anything that says "display adapter" and uninstall it.

Don't think I use any display adapters. Can't see anything that says display adapter in uninstall programs list.

Won't work with my version of windows.

Super annoying, I've tried so many times to get it to work.. it won't.
Tried the autoscan on their website, even installed java and it made me add sites to the exception list 2 times..still didn't work
Their autoupdater/trying to manually install gives me the image I uploaded above.
