Graphics card upgrade opinions

I really didn't want to make another of these posts but I've been looking through the forum and I've come to the conclusion every case is different.

Mine, is a ~220€-ish budget to upgrade my graphics card. I've been thinking about the RX 580 4gb, even tho it sits right out of my budget, and, obviously, is unavailable due to the mining trend. Also thought about the 1060 3gb but its more expensive than the RX 580.

Questions are, do you guys have any different recommendations? Should I maybe wait and see if I get better deals depending on the ethereum pricing variation?

*upgrade intended for 3-4 years of next gen gaming; currently running 1366x768 resolution but planning to upgrade to 1920x1080 144hz.

  1. In any event... it's NOT worth it to buy the 3BG 1060 nor the 4GB 580... if your intention or goal is for them to last 3-4 years... Save up and get the model with the bigger VRAM... unless you wish to upgrade again in 6 months.

I did think about that, but I managed to make a gtx 660 2gb last this far, and as I have no income to build a 3 monitor rig, I thought the 4gb would hang on for that gap, even on a decently sized 1080p monitor. Was I that mistaken?

Today... probably would be ok for most games... 2-3 years from now... Nope. My aging 280X card has 3GB VRAM and it's struggling with today's titles. I plan on upgrading to 8GB VRAM when prices become affordable again.

Hm.. When are you predicting that will be? I found the RX 580 8gb for around 280€, but that's too pushy. Plus, no card is available but the lite versions lol

If I remember correctly... the last time we had this problem there were a few cards available a few days before Black Friday in the USA... So you might have a small window from that Sunday until Thursday. If you wait until Friday, Black Friday Day itself... then it might be too late... I recall having to wait until Feb. of that next year before things got back to normal.

  6. Black Friday being November 24? I'm portuguese so no idea, even amazon has them sold out. I'll probably see what the stores around town tell me, but I'm already leaning towards buying a 144hz monitor instead for now.
