PCIe Network Adapter Card Causes Boot into EFI Shell

Hello,

I want to add a second Ethernet adapter card to my MSI X99S SLI machine. I purchased an Intel EXPI9301CTBLK PCIe network adapter card and inserted it into the PCI_E6 slot on the MOBO. When I start up the machine it goes directly to the EFI shell and won't boot correctly until I remove the added PCIe card.

Any ideas on what may be the problem?

Thanks,
Kerry

  1. You may have to enable legacy card support in the BIOS.

  3. Look at page 1-21 of your user's manual. Depending on which CPU you have, PCI_E6 may not be enabled...

The only options I have from the BIOS : Settings\Advanced\PCI Subsystem Settings
PEGO-PCI_E6-GenX [Auto, Gen1, Gen2 or GEN3]. Currently it is set as "Auto"

Hmmm...I don't really understand what the chart on this page is telling me. I have an 3GHz Intel Core i7-5960X CPU.
