Hey guys im looking at getting an rx vega 64 for my PC and want to know if i should buy a reference or custom one?
I've been waiting for a while for vega and really just want to get one so im tempted to just get first one thats available.
I know custom ones are better but how much better?

Solution
The last leaks I saw showed the Vega 64 roughly matching the 1070. While consuming a LOT more power. 1080TI and Titan are safe at the top. But that's the thing with leaks. You never really know until they can get tested for real.

Haven't seen any reviews yet, so impossible to say. It really depends on the thermals of the card. Sometimes they are ok and the stock blower is fine, other times it's not and they won't stay up to speed with the stock sink. Considering they are making a water cooled card I'm guessing there will be heat issues with the stock models. But until real reviews show up it's just a guess. You don't have long to wait. (if the leaks are correct you are better off getting the 1070 or 1080 for a gaming rig. You can buy those now.)

typically, it's between a 5-10% increase depending on the cooling solutions applied, the OC settings for the custom GPU's (base and turbo clocks etc). When you game though, often the difference even between higher clocked cards breaks down to just a few FPS increase. The reference cards (with my limited knowledge anyway) seem to have higher noise levels. So often new card buyers wait for the 3rd party cards, because they are quieter, offer better performance over stock, and in a lot of cases have better OC'ing ability (better cooling, quality parts on PCB etc). Yes, it's a waiting game. Stock reference or 3rd Party.

I thought the leaks for the vega 56 was that it was better than the 1070??
Even if they match in performance to their opposition, vega will be cheaper

Just wait. Who knows the 64 might be a complete disaster for all we know.

Nothing meaningful to add?

It ended up matching the 1080. It is behind the 1080TI. And it does use a LOT more power to get you there. The Vegas 56 does a better job against the 1070, but still uses more power. Though not as bad. That's the thing with leaks, they can be off. Lets not put down people because of what leaks/pre release info showed.

so already decided which card to get?
