Two RAID 1 arrays, on different operating systems

I have four 8TB WD Golds. I want to set up two RAID 1 arrays with these drives, within the same RAID enclosure, which will be plugged into one computer. Said computer is dual bootable with both Mac and Windows. I would like to designate each RAID array to each of the different operating systems. Is this particular setup, it's this possible?

Side note: I also need some recommendations on a RAID enclosure to use, assuming this setup is possible.

Thanks for any help offered

I would create raid5 using hardware raid such as Areca, 3M, DATOptic
But your application would be the best to use a driver-less raid controller SPM393...

It is possible. You will have to pick a volume and identify as the Windows volume and the same thing for the MAC volume. It is quite possible that every time you boot the OS will try and take over the other volume. There is nothing that will mask the volumes for the non-primary OS. This is more hassle than worth while IMO.

Thanks for your reply. I forgot to mention that I have two internal SSDs for booting the separate OSs. Not sure if that makes a difference, but thought I'd add it. Also, the solution I'm going for is an external one. Again, not sure if that makes a difference. Concerning the speculation that an OS would try to take over an unintended array, wouldn't the format of the drives prevent this from happening?

Why not just one big raid 10? Or just plug these in a nas?

Don't think a RAID 10 would do the job. Although it would give me the two separate pools of data storage I desire, I fear that because of the different formats that each pair of drives would become a problem as "OSX Extended (Journaled)" is not compatible with "NTFS". Of course I could be 100% wrong about that, hence I'm asking such a question that I am. As for why I prefer not to use NAS, in my situation NAS will not be as nearly as fast as DAS and speed is what I'm after at the moment.

Well 2 raids inside (or outside using a thunderbolt to raid enclosure) is possible. However best thing to do is raid 1 since it mirrors a hard drive and serves as an immediate backup. You will still just get the normal performance of 1 drive which is not fast but this is secure since doing raid 0 on hard drives is a dumb idea and the speed gains are minimal.

I agree, which brings me back to my original question. Are two RAID 1 arrays, to be used on two separate operating systems, possible to achieve with an external enclosure? If so, what RAID enclosure is recommended to use for this situation?

I don't think this is possible since both os's will see eachothers non initiated raid drives and those will show up in explorer so trying to keep them seperate is not going to happen.

You will probably get messages asking you to format the foreign volume.

I see. Any enclosure that you'd recommend? I'd been looking at the TerraMaster D4-310 from Noontec, but they seemed to have discontinued that product unfortunately.

In Mac you need to add a Tuxera software at $31.00.it will read/write NTFS in Mac

Now you can use you raid5 or 10 or TWO raid 1 from SPM393 anyway you want
