Hi im planning to build a pc with corsair vengence lpx 2x8gb and wanted to ask if i can use corsiar vengence lpx 2x4gb with it with no problems

24 gigs is overkill, if you want to get more ram i would just get another 2x4 kit... try to get the same brand and model that you already have if possible... if not then atleast make sure they are the same speed and timings

I have 16 GB installed and the only time I would use it all is when ram previewing in After Effects - which is a process that happily uses all ram available - so in my case I could certainly use more.

However I'd agree that 24 GB is most likely more than you need, but if you know you need more then...

If you need more then buy more in a matched set as in one package.
For your question their no 100% answer. Should work, might work, might not work, might be made to work with some tweaking.
I have 32GB in mine I have never used that much but was running out with 16GB using some programs and the most I have used of the 32GB is in the 25GB area.
