Best Current "Future Proof" GPU For £250?

I'm currently in the market for a new gpu to pair with my i5 6500. I would like a gpu that could last me a long time and maybe be able to run the Oculus if I get it later on. As stated my budget is around £250 maybe push to £280 want to play on ultra at 1080p. I have looked at the 570s and 1060s etc but not sure which ones. Most of the new rx series are out of stock in the U.K. Everywhere. And also is the 6gb worth it? Appreciate all the help

Future proof is an imaginary concept. For 1080p, a 1060 3Gb (£228.20) does just fine delivering 57 fps in Witcher 3 for example. A 1070 takes you into the high 80s but not gonna get one of those on a £250 budget ... figure just under £400

I was looking at the 1060s, is there much difference in the 3gb or 6gb ? And I know I should have at least a 1070 for vr but will these do for a enjoyable experience?

The 3GB model has a consistent performance disadvantage, about 7% slower across the board ... not because of the difference in VRAM but because of the difference in the amount of shaders, the 6GB card has about 10% more. The 3 GB model has 1152 and the 6GB has 1280. Here;s the relative differences in 18 popular games.
