My monitor wont turn on without turning off. Basically i get the blue power light and then a second later i can see it get it weaker. Then another 2 seconds later it just turns off and back on. I opened the monitor and didn't find anything broken inside. How do I know what could be thr culprit and how do i indicate if a capacitor is broken?

Bulging caps may well result in the symptoms you're seeing but, if you have a monitor that's at the point of 4x bulging caps, you may be on borrowed time if you get it repaired (ie it may only last a day/week/month before some other element fails).

No harm in trying though, I guess.

What monitor are we talking about here? And what are your system specs?

Based on the limited info, I would suspect it's searching for an input. When on, it's looking for X input (say DisplayPort for arguments sake).
Doesn't find DisplayPort and reboots, looking for Y input (say HDMI). Finds HDMI, stays on.

Some monitors "switch" inputs seamlessly, but others (older, generally) reboot themselves when changing input.

Are you sure the default input on your monitor is set to match whichever input you're using?

Its a generic MAG Monitor. Honestly i tried searching it online but couldnt find any results. This issue occurs when I have my VGA Cable plugges in and when I have it sitting there with only a power cord plugged in.

No. Nothing shows up. What happens is that the monitor light turns on (BLUE), and shortly after it turns off (NO LIGHT). I dont get a no signal/input light (ORANGE) like it normally does. And everytime it turns on and off the screen flickers very faintly for a split second. Might i add, when I put my ear next to the monitor (Opened), I could hear it power up and then cut off over and over.

Without being able to test the monitor itself (via another device, another outlet, another cord etc), it's really impossible to identify the problem.

Based on the fact it's true shutting off and turning back on, it may be the power supply in the monitor is failing.... but again, impossible to say.

Ive tried using the same power cord that powers my pc and a different VGA cable. What could be the issue with the monitors power supply?

I am now verry worried. I was just told that my little brother unplugged the PC (not the monitor) while it was running. Is it possible that by doing so it may have damaged the monitor? The PC is fine, but what good is a PC without a monitor?

What could be the issue? It simply being old/worn out.... or something like a power surge etc.
It's rare for monitors power jacks to just go, but it's still possible.

As for removing the power to the PC while it's running, it's not good for the desktop...... shouldn't impact the monitor.

Shy of testing, as I've mentioned? No, not really. As much as you don't want to/can't replace the monitor at the moment, it's likely going to be much more economical vs repairing an older monitor - and if you lack anything else to test it with, you may well be wasting your time, unfortunately.

Ok so i had a much closer look at the capacitors using my phones camera and i found that 4 of them were very slightly bulging out. So is the problem coming from those capacitors? I have an electricity shop very close to my house, so i
might see if he could replace them for me since i dont have a solder.
