New Ryzen build BSOD/freezing

Put together a new Ryzen build on the weekend but have unfortunately been encountering constant BSOD crashes, often only minutes after having boooted into Windows.

My build is; https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HmF4bj
BIOS screens; http://imgur.com/a/YAzrO

I have attempted;

  • Reseating all components,
Removing all optional drives (leaving m.2),
    Updating all drivers to latest,
    Updating Bios to latest,
    Formatting and reinstalling Windows fresh

Even with the above, on a fresh clean install with latest manufacturer drivers I'm seeing the same behaviour. The machine will noticeably hitch, frequently noticeable when playing a game for example, and eventually freeze into a reboot or BSOD.

I'd consider the GPU a culprit, but it's the one component I kept from my past build and has always been completely stable.

Most probable culprit seems to be RAM, especially since Ryzen is known to be sensitive and it's not a kit on the boards QoL (though before buying I've seen others have success). Aware the RAM is known to have corruption issues, but haven't seen and aren't using RGB software.

Failing that it could be a motherboard/PSU issue, which I'm hoping not.

Considered next steps;

  • Manually clock the RAM, particularly raising voltage (advice here appreciated, see BIOS screens above),
Try to stress test with single RAM (s) inserted,
Run another mem check (last one was error free at 95%, then froze on the reboot so I missed the results, and took several hours -_-),
    Try my prior build PSU,
Cry into a pillow and return parts (whilst I can)

Anyone faced similar issues or have any possible solutions I'm not currently considering?

Solution
Maybe.. It is a complete overhaul no doubt. Do the freezes/bsod occur mostly while gpu is under substantial load? Are the any messages in the bsod?

Here what I'd do assuming first thing is to get things more stable and then go from there.

1) Make sure to run performance mode in power management or install amd balanced for ryzen. Make sure or disable power saving/management of the pcie-x16 port
1.b) Install furmark
1.c) Run furmark, make sure issue exists and is repeatable
1.d) Check memory for consistency
2) Remove two of the ram sticks and leave two as per motherboard instruction
2.b) Make sure they run at default speed no xmp or docp, perhaps bring them down to 2133 if possible
2.c) Remove any non-essential sata drives or extra...

3) Make sure it runs without ok without substantial load especially in bios
4) Backup bios to USB stick
4.b) Update bios to latest (it should include agesa 1.0.0.6a) from bios or qflash (avoid installing bios from windows with @bios!)
5) Install/reinstall latest chipset drivers. Usually available from motherboard vendor
6) Install/reinstall latest graphics drivers (make sure bios is update before drivers are installed)
7) Run furmark and keep fingers crossed

I've had several hypotheses. But haven't quite nailed it yet. Though for the most part it runs stable under load. In my own testing I've seen multiple unrelated issues causing bsod/freeze.

I've read that the GeForce 980 has peak power draw of 400w, while 1080 stays around within 300w during peak, somewhere in the review section on toms. Maybe the same applies for 970. In my case it sure seems like CM 600w 80+ bronze is not enough during peak for my gtx 460 and ryzen 1700x (everything on stock)

Here is the power consumption part comparing power draw of 1080 vs 980. In my case it also seems as if the GPU is the culprit but after having run it on a separate computer it clearly is not.

I see most of these steps have already been done. I had bsod because bios was newer than drivers, so make sure to drivers install after bios. Next I'd go with 2 sticks at non xmp, and new PSU 800w 80+ or GPU.
