CAT5 cables quit working

My network was working fine as it was for about a year, the modem wired to the router via a CAT5 wired to a smart TV and a desktop computer. Then we started having a couple problems and within about a week the wired network quit working. I've troubleshoot it down to the CAT5 cables connecting the devices, the problem is that the CAT5 cables are behind finished drywall and it's not just one cable it's multiples. What could I have done wrong or what could have gone wrong to cause a CAT5 cable to not work?

Solution
It would be rare to get even a single failure of in wall ethernet cable but multiple would be almost unheard of. In most cases it is the jacks on the ends but again they do not all fail at the same time. This is pretty simplistic stuff it is platic crimped onto copper wire, its not like there is any electronics involved.

I would get a simple cable tester that verifies the basic connectivity and order of the wires.

I would be more suspect that the ports on the router failed or a switch failed if you have a switch connecting them.

Now it could be something strange like a rat chewed though the wires in the attic but again that is very rare.

bill001g - I like the idea of a cable tester I'll have to pick one up this week some time. I've tested the router and modem with some factory made cables and the ports work fine.
