GPU fan reaching 10k+ RPM while idle

I have an ASUS GTX 1060 which has been fine until recently, but lately it's been turning the fan to (presumably) max speed without me being able to control it while at idle temps. I've been using Afterburner to try to stop it but even with a custom fan curve setting the fan speed to 25% at all temps below 80 it'll still do this consistently, it'll happen as soon as I turn the PC on, often.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I had this issue with my GTX 1070. If I were you I would try to RMA it. Good luck, you are going to need it.

In my specific case, the wires that go to the fan were being pinched in the shroud causing a short. Since Asus wouldn't honor the warranty (they just kept giving me the canned messages saying install GPUTweak II and it ended in them calling me a liar) I had fix it myself. Thankfully it was just the wires on my card so I was able to get the wires out and repair the pinched area and it has been fine since.

However this may not be your issue, I suggest you get in contact with Asus for repair or replacement.
