Don't know if I'm in the right category but my pc has been freezing after a few minutes of playing games and sometimes just browsing the internet, I have tried a lot, even going as far to buy a new power supply and using that. I have also swapped around ram, which is working now, and have tried to do clean installs of graphics drivers.

When it happens, the freeze makes the whole computer unresponsive, but the fans still spin inside. To get it to work again, I have to do a hard reset of the computer.

Specs:
CPU: i7-920
Motherboard:Alienware aurora r1 board
CPU cooler: hyper 212x
Memory: 2gb elpida ram (came with aurora)
Gpu: gtx 660 ti
Psu: thermaltake smart 700W
Wireless card: Asia pce-ac5bt (I think)

When you say it freezes, can you still click things but have no response? or does the mouse cursor freeze up too?

it wasn't happening in windows that often, it only froze once out of the countless other times when i have been. It is mostly in games though

When doing a clean install, how did you do it? The way that worked best for me is using a program called DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller). I would run that in safe mode and remove the drivers. then reinstall the drivers after back into normal windows.

I reinstalled the drivers and it froze again, so I rebooted and now the computer is turning on enough to where I can see the alienware logo, and then off again and it is in a loop like that. It might be overheating. It also said that I had overclocked it but I haven't touched it since I started

Update: got it to start and run csgo, but it still froze and did the same thing

It almost sounds like it could be overheating. Try using the program called: Open Hardware monitor. See what your idle temps are.

My idle temps for cpu are around 35 c and for gpu they are around 32. I ran a stress test on my cpu and it went up to around 60 and froze, does that mean anything?

60c for a CPU is perfectly fine. is there a video of the PC freezing that we all could see?

The board is pretty old maybe 8 or 10 years, and so is the processor, the gpu is used from my friend, don't know how long he's had it. The psu, case, and hard drive are brand new, within a couple weeks, and the ram is kinda old.
