motherboard with no onboard graphics

hi im thinking about buying the MSI X399 GAMING PRO CARBON AC TR4 ATX AMD Motherboard it has no onboard graphics so like no HDMI ports or anything anyways i dont have a GPU if i get like some sort of adapter like a usb to HDMI adapter will that work or is there any other way to see the screen without a gpu or is the only way to see the screen a GPU

I'm guessing that if you can afford a $360 motherboard and a $1000 cpu, and upwards of $300 worth of ram to populate the board properly for use, then you can also afford a decent gpu. With the applications that that combination of parts is designed for, onboard graphics is not going to be useful, precluding the use of a relatively powerful gpu. Push come to shove, throw an extra $50 on the price and get a GT 740 or equivalent if all you want is windows running.
