Hello.
My Pc's Psu stoped working. So i borrowed old Pc from a friend of mine to be sure, that it's Psu fault. First tedted friends Pc, worked. Then tried wirh friends Psu to start up mine Pc and it worked as well. So i put back together friends Pc and swithed it on, got a bang a smell of burning cable. So the question is this - what went wrong? Is it possible to mix cables like that?

Solution
Only cables you can mix up are 8/4-pin EPS (used to power CPU) and 6/2-pin PCI-E (used to power GPU) since those connectors look very similar while +12V and ground wires are swapped in them. While the connectors are keyed differently, with enough force you can plug them in incorrectly.

Though, what really may went wrong can be due to the low build quality of blown PSU. During the PSU swap, it is possible that PSU got rattled which led to a PSU failure on boot up. Though, i've yet to see a good quality PSU that blows up after swapping it around.
My 3 PCs: Skylake, Haswell and AMD are powered by Seasonic PSUs and none of my good quality PSUs have blown up when i've swapped PSUs around. (Full specs with pics in my sig.)
