I have buzzing from my Seasonic X750 KM3, it sounds a bit like a cricket (insect)... I've had it for some time now but sometimes it gets particularly worse and is quite bothersome when it's really quiet.

I have investigated this in the past but with no solution. I noticed today that when ever I open a program the buzzing briefly stops for 1-3 seconds as the program loads and then continues as the program has been opened. This is interesting and I wonder if it has something to do with a certain component being briefly used to load the program. Could this offer any clues as to the buzzing of the PSU?

Solution
Coil whine, while being annoying, isn't harmful to PSU or any other components. With added load on PSU by the GPU, coil noise can get louder since more power is passed through the electromagnetic coil.

What you hear is a coil whine,

Seasonic X-series PSUs usually have that issue while the rest of Seasonic lineup is free from coil whine issues. Can say that for sure about S12II, M12II EVO and PRIME 80+ Titanium series since those 3 PSUs power my 3 PCs. Full specs with pics in my sig.

Sadly, there's nothing you can do to fix coil whine. You can RMA your PSU in hopes to get another X-750 that doesn't have that coil whine but i won't bet on it. To get rid of coil whine completely, replace your PSU with the one that doesn't produce coil whine, e.g PRIME 750 80+ Titanium,

Coil whine I understand is a high pitched noise whereas this is a subtle buzzing noise. In my previous investigations into this I did learn that it is quite common in the X-Series and in some other Seasonic made PSU's but I think it was described as being a coil buzzing or vibrating. Most of the time there is background noise in the room that will mask it but in very quiet times it is a little irritating. I found it interesting that the buzzing responded to opening and closing of programs by briefly stopping possibly as a particular component is drawing power as the program loads.

Coil whine is audible noise which is caused by electromagnetic coil when certain resonance is achieved and it physically vibrates.

As far as why it briefly stops when you load a program, your MoBo, CPU, RAM and system drive draw a bit more power during the program loading.

It's possible the worsening of the buzzing lately is due to the addition of my 1080 Ti FTW3. I have seen a report from another 1080 Ti owner claiming their PSU buzzes badly with the Ti. If it is not harmful it probably best to try and ignore it.
