SSD works only in SATAII speed on SATAIII port.

Hello people. My motherboard's SATA ports are all SATAIII. I recently bought a Samsung Evo 850 SSD and when i install Samsung Magician software it shows it's only SATAII. I also tested from 3rd party softwares and speed is only around 250mb/s. I tried switching ports and installing chipset drivers but nothing worked. My system contains

Asus m5a97 r2.0 mobo
2 SataII hard drives
Samsung Evo 850 SSD

I don't understand how this works. I checked AHCI settings and they're set correctly. Mobo has 6 sata 6gb/s ports but somehow SSD works in sata 3gb/s. Any ideas? I'm really bummed

Hi, What SATA cable using? Have you tested different one?

I thought it didn't matter. I'm using the one from another mobo's(B250 chipset). I will try another one but i don't think it will work that way.

It matters. Try testing one that came with the ASUS board.

No other idea. Try updating the board's BIOS, if newer version available, or RMA-ing the drive.

I'm slowly descending into madness. When i tried different ports and cables it worked at Sata 6gb/s at one point. I thought it was about cables or something and i solved it but when i plugged other two hard drives and booted again it was back to Sata 3gb/s. I thought maybe HDD's somehow are the problem and i removed them again and booted but it's still 3gb/s. Anyone have any idea what this is?

Try testing the SSD in different pc, if possible.

I just tried it on friend's computer. It works good there. Around 450mb/s on random. On my pc though it's only 220mb/s.

The board is old. Maybe a BIOS issue, but not sure. I see no other reason.

I was messing with my friends GPU. When i installed the GPU, my bios settings were gone. I applied my cpu OC settings etc. Somehow the SSD works as intended(Sata 6gb/s) now. It seems when i enter the sata or boot settings it's back to 3gb/s again so i didn't touch anything else. As i said in an early post, it worked as intended before and my bios was reset that time too. So i think they are somehow connected. Not sure if it will work next time i restart the machine but hey, this is the closest thing to solution for me if someone else has this problem too.
