Hi,

I had 2(Kingston 4GB 1333MHz DDR3) RAM sticks, and my MB has 4 RAM slots and supports Dual-Channel so I was running them in slots 2&4 (from the left)(same color)

However, I believe that I have a faulty ram, so I bought 1 RAM stick which is a (Kingston ValueRAM 8 GB 1600MHz DDR3)

Now I have 1x 4GB 1333MHz and 1x 8GB 1600MHz, so should I:

a) use them in dual-channel slots (2&4) which I believe will downclock the 8GB to the 4GB's speed.

b) use them in non dual-channel slots (3&4)(different colored slots) will this prevent the 8GB from being downclocked or not?

c) use the 8GB RAM only.

Solution
The memory is going to run at the same speed not 1 stick 1333 and the other 1600.
If they will work together i would use them in the same colored slots it should run in flex mode.
Doesn't matter. They will all operate at the highest speed they have in common. In this case 1333Mhz. As you don't have dual channel you should just run them both. Most tasks aren't effected by RAM speed. At least not to any meaningful degree. For the most part you are better off with 12GB at 1333 Mhz than 8GB at 1600 Mhz.

Thanks @Zerk2012 right now im running them in single-channel, I will put them in same color and if MB accepts them then that's how I'll run them.

Thanks @velocityg4 I didn't know RAM speed could be negligible, does that apply for gaming as well. Also I do have dual-channel I just don't have matching RAM sticks (not anymore).
