Hello.

So a while ago my hard drive stopped working. It was slowing down the whole computer, so i had to remove it. I had some photos and videos on it that i would like to recover. I have tried to plug it in the computer using a hard drive dock (usb3), and it has worked sometimes. One time i managed to recover around 200 gb of data from it. Other times i have managed too look through the hard drive and opened some photos on it. But most of the times i plug it in the computer, it has just slowed down everything, making the computer almost unusable. So, what can I do to recover data from the hard drive and/or fix the hard drive itself?

Thanks in advance for answers :)

It certainly sounds like a failing HDD. ARE YOU COPYING WHATEVER DATA YOU NEED FROM THAT HDD TO ANOTHER HDD?

Try the HD Sentinel program. It's our most trusted HDD/SSD diagnostic program. You should get a definitive report from that program.

If the hard drive alone slows down the PC there might be a virus on it. Download the free trial/version of maleware bites, and with the questionable drive plunged in, run it.
I'm calling virus because even through it is no longer your boot drive, it still causes slow performance.

The FIRST thing you should do without any more delay is to test the drive with a HDD diagnostic program - preferably one that's available from the drive's manufacturer. You MUST determine whether you're dealing with a failing drive.

Assuming the drive is failing, perform whatever copy/paste or clone operations you can to transfer/copy all or whatever data you can from the HDD to another HDD.

I tried running the WD diagnostic program ( http://support.wdc.com/knowledgebase/answer.aspx?ID=940 ). When i launched it, it said scanning devices and went away. I waited a while but nothing came up. But when i unplugged the hard drive, the program popped up again.
