So my graphics card has been running pretty hot, so i figured id take it apart and blow it out, and reapplying compound illuded me somehow, and im not quite sure the correct way to apply it. Also the old paste on the gpu seems to have splooged all over, is this normal? I plan on getting a new card within a month or so, but would prefer not to ruin this one, if it matters it is an ASUS 660TI.

I can't tell from the picture if there are any circuitry exposed under that old paste or not. The dark area is probably just epoxy sealing the socket. If you use a non corrosive cleaner and are gentle it should be fine. Or you could just leave it and clean the GPU only. And the heat sink, of course.
