computer will not boot to remedy your computer's slow performance, you installed additional memory. after the installation, you close your computer case, connect the power and all peripheral devices, and turned on the computer. although the computer turns on, it beeps in rapid succession, it is not responding, and the operating system does not start. what might be causing this?

Solution
Likely scenario:
Memory not installed properly, in wrong slot, bad stick(s) or not compatible. Recheck and reinstall in another slot and reset CMOS between tries.
Find out what beep POST codes mean for particular BIOS/MB.

Im guessing additional memory means RAM. If so one of the newly installed RAM cards may be installed incorrectly or faulty if it was pre-used. There could be an HDD error meaning that the hard drive isnt connected properly of the hard drive stopped working properly. It could be that one of the cables attaching something to the motherboard is not connected properly/is loose for whatever reason or if your really unlucky the motherboard could have just gave out on you. Im assuming this is an actual scenario and not theoretical. If the problem started after installing more memory, then first start by taking that memory out to see if the pc will run as it used to. The DOS beeps can also actually be used for diagnosing problems. The number and speed of beeps may be able to give you a generalized idea of whats wrong. A list of parts making up the pc build could also be helpful in troubleshooting the problem

1. the ram you added is more then the mb can take.
2 mix match ram stick. older mb some have max ram speed do to the cpu. if it 533 speed and you put in 800 if the ram does not slow down could be the error. make sure there no dirt in the ram slot or bent leads. also make sure the mb not shorting to the case. beep codes are ok sometime but a post it card tell you if the post stopping at the ram or other part.
