Hello

I've had my PC since late 2012.
I updated the Graphics and PSU in 2014, which has been fairly good the last few years.
I realise now though that the CPU and Motherboard are weak. How easy are they to replace?
1080p gaming is ok, but not great as it struggles sometimes.

My specs:
AMD A8-5600K Quad Core 3.6Ghz
ASRock FM2A75 Pro4 Motherboard
NVidia GeForce (Zotac) GTX 760 AMP Edition 2GB
XFX 550W PSU
16GB RAM DDR3
LG Blu Ray Drive
LG D2343p 23inch Monitor
Windows 10 Pro 64bit

I'm just wondering what my options could be, any advice is appreciated. many thanks.

If you want to upgrade the CPU, it'll be a collective upgrade - CPU, motherboard and RAM. That processor is a weak one, so I'd recommend upgrading to the new Ryzen lineup of processors. The upgrade will be tough, since you'll need to remove the current motherboard and install a new one, along with new RAM and a new CPU. It'll be quite close to building a full computer, but not quite. If you think you can do that upgrade(which is actually fairly easy if you know what you're doing - knowledge which can be easily gained through a few YouTube videos), then it will help with performance. However, your video card is quite aged as well, so if you don't want to go through the cumbersome CPU upgrade, then upgrading the GPU to a GTX 1060 6 GB...

Admirable
The best course of action and that would give you an extra edge on gaming is a complete platform switch over. Both Ryzen and Intel are currently offering great deals for a lowish price if you're in a strict budget.

Ryzen 3 or 5 are great choices to keep costs low and still get a pretty good rig and a Intel i5/ i7 should give the best gaming performance available right now.

To switch pieces is fairly easy, it's seems harder than it really is. You'd just have to unplug every cable , detach the mobo from the case and put the new one + CPU + RAM on it's place and then reconect everything else. SImple as that.

But for a better suggestions, your budget, desired games to play and place you're looking to buy your pieces are?

You can still put off a CPU upgrade, but not for long.

My recommendation would be to get a 1060 6 GB right now, and then when you can afford it and have the how-to knowledge, only then switch to Ryzen processors.

if you have a good case then look at i5/ryzen cpu and mb and ddr4. hard part is that your going to have to back your data up and do a clean install of windows.

Thanks for all your replies, appreciate it.

I think Shektron probably has the best solution. I could get the new GPU suggested - put off the CPU, Motherboard until a later date.

I'm going to give it some thought, but I guess it's easier to start with a complete new setup!
