Hey! :)

I have just moved into a new flat and we dont have ethernet ports. We just got a modem in the longue.

I game a decent amount on my PC which has no wireless card. My room is about 10-15m away from the modem and we only have thin chipboard/plasterboard walls.

Whats the best set up with the least packetloss? :

-Wireless repeater which would repeat the modem signal in my room and I'd connect to the router via ethernet
OR
-Get a PCI-E wireless card and connect straightto the modem

Any advise?
Thank you all! :)

Well the best way short of putting a hole through your wall and running an ethernet cable wold probably be a power line adapter. This takes the ethernet signal and runs it through the power grid of your house. So you plug one adapter into your wall by the router run an eternet cable into it, then put the second powerline adapter into a wall outlet in your room and plug an ethernet cable into that from your pc. It's just like having a wired connection assuming your flat does not have very old or low quality wiring which can affect the signal if its bad enough. I have had pretty good luck with powerline adapters in the past.

Or you can just get a quality router and go wireless, you shouldn't need a repeater if your pc is only 15m away...

I dont understand how powerline works, Do I just plug the powerline adapter into the wall socket in my room and then plug the ethernet cable from the powerline adapter to my pc?

Yes, that simple. Turns your mains wiring into a network. Now its not as good as a proper Ethernet setup and performance does depend on quality of the wiring but I have used these adapters and know several people who do and we have all had good success. Most games I get <30ms ping with power line adapters, if I use wireless its usually between 60-80ms.

Yes, this is how powerline adapters work. It uses regular sockets and uses the electrical currents. You plug one powerline adapter to a socket in fromt of your modem and connect them both by ethernet cable. Then you connect another powerline adapter to a socket in front of your Pc and connect them both using another short ethernet cable. The network is transferred through electrical lines.

Ok, i think ill give powerline ago, as long as I get below 40ms Ill be happy

As I mentioned its not guaranteed to work as well as what I have, a lot depends on the quality of the wiring but everyone I know who has used them has been impressed and found it better than wireless.
