i4670k overcklock issue

Hi all!

I have my i4670k for about 3.5 years now. It's been overcklocked since then to 4.4 ghz at a voltage of about 1.270V.

At the begining the temps were fine - on idle it was 30c-38c and under load and stress it was 70c-80c. Lately the temps are going crazy. on idle it's about 60c and under load it's reaching 100c and above!

I have tried to re-aplly Intel's original thermal paste with CollerMaster Mastergel Maker. Unfortunately it didn't help and the temps are still high.

I have two options now - first, is to delid the CPU. Honestly, I don't realy like this idea, don't want to mess with the CPU.
Secondly, I can by a new CPU and overclock it.

Thing is, I'm affraid that the CPU is wore out due to the intense heat.

Can you please advise me what to do now? or maybe even suggest other solutions?

You sure that your Cooler is working its AIO?
is the pump working? test the Temp with stock intel cooler and see if its same or worse

The 4670k is a good cpu, no need to really upgrade there. The CPU is not worn out, not by a long shot. It might be damaged slightly, but it's nothing to worry about. You should get a new cooler. Any noctua cooler is good, hyper 212 evo, anything phanteks, those are all good air coolers.

I have been reading online, and it's mainly said that delid will be the best solution. A new cooler will definetly help, but not much.

By the way, this is my current cooler:

Your current cooler is the lowest of the low end for AIO's. I knew someone with one, and it was awful. We replaced his with a noctua nh-d15 air cooler. If you get a good cooler delidding isn't necessary, but it sure is helpful. I personally like the vice method. I'm running an i5-4690k under custom watercooling and delidded, at 4.8ghz, my max temp is 50 celsius on the hottest core. A good cooler will take you a long way, and delidding is not for the faint of heart. However, delidding will give you the extra edge, if that's what you're looking for, but it can't fix a terrible cooler. A new cooler will be the difference between night and day for you. If you have the cash, look for a good AIO, or custom watercooling loop. If not, any nice air cooler will do.

I think that I will start with delid. For 3 years my cooler did a good job cooling my CPU, so I'm not sure it is the problem, although I am sure that getting a new cooler will definitely show some results. Actually, since I built my current PC, I always wanted to get those H100i/110i/115i. Is it worth the cost?

Any way, I will start with delidding my 4670k since I have already ordered the Coolaboratory Liquid Pro, and it's much cheaper than buying a new cooling system. If this won't work, I will try getting a new cooler, and if this won't wotk, then I guess my CPU is a wreck :(

The corsair h100 series is pricey, but can show a marked increase in temperatures. If you do now want to build your own cooling loop, they are a good option. However, if you have the slightest inclination to do a custom loop, that would be a much better option. To delid, I highly recommend using a vice, or one of the tools available online. There are many delidding guides online to follow. One of the more important things to remember, is to scratch off intel's black glue from the cpu and the ihs with a credit card or something similar. It's OK to press hard on the pcb with the credit card, but carefully do so, so you don't slip and shear off the smt capacitors next to the die. I also highly recommend looking up a video of someone delidding, and of someone applying liquid metal.

Ok so a little update.

I finally delidded my 4670k. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like helping at all. Temperatures are still the same. I'm clueless now...

Any segestions? :(
