Hello.

I swapped a gtx 780 thinking it's a faulty card for 970 and I'm having the same problem with it. I think I'm getting half of what the card is capable of and the same thing was happening with 780.

Card in question: MSI GAMING GeForce GTX 970 4GB OC.

1080p for reference.

I've tried multiple games I watched people test online with the same card.

Crysis 3 - High Settings Medium Texture Resolution - the moment I walk out in the open world static 25 FPS

Project CARS - Medium settings less than 30 FPS -Nvidia Experience optimal gets 20-25

Battlefield1 - High settings preset 35 FPS

Dirt 4 - unplayable even on Low settings 25FPS. Ultra-low 120+. Ultra High literally 6 FPS

GTA 5 - Ultra Settings 2x MSAA - 30FPS

In GTA5 the card is at 99% usage 62 temp. CPU usage 50%-temp 65. GPU core clock 1300 mem clock 3500.

-All clocks and temps on all parts look normal.
-None of the parts are OC'd.
-Latest Nvidia drivers - Used DDU before installing
-Windows freshly installed
-Nvidia control panel and windows power settings are optimized.
-Also I unparked 3 cores which didn't change anything.
-Set Afterburner to max power limit with a target temp. of 80
-CPU Clock 3.7 when under load
-RAM clock seems normal too

These benchmarks are lower than what people seem to be getting with the same card ?

Userbenchmark score idk if this is allowed sry if it isn't - http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/4679708

In all the games I tested;

CPU usage <60%, temps 70 tops
RAM usage optimal
GPU at 99% - VRAM optimal - temps never go above 65

Rig:

PSU: Thermaltake Litepower 650W LT-650P
CPU: i7-3770
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Pro4-M
GPU: MSI GAMING GeForce GTX 970 4GB OC
RAM: Transcend 2x8GB @1333Mhz
SDD: Kingston HyperX Savage 480GB SSD

I can't think of a reason why this is happening. The rig should make sense but for some reason it's massively underperforming. I had the same problem with Windforce 780. It held 50+FPS GTA5 ultra on my friends rig but on mine it couldn't get past 35. And now with the 970 same story.

From what I've seen I think I'm getting half the FPS others get on the same card.Seen people play Dirt4 ProjectCars GTA at ultra 60fps with it and I can't run it on low settings..

I would really appreciate some help here I'm really lost as to what to do anymore.

Try this tutorial:

How you know you its the GPU causing the issue?

1. Check for any malware:
https://www.malwarebytes.com/

If there is, remove it instantly.

2. Download Geforce and download drivers from there. You may have installed a wrong driver:
https://www.geforce.co.uk/geforce-experience/download

3. One reason why your performance maybe low is because of your parked cores. Simply, a parked core basically means it's disabled and you do not want that. Here is how to identify if your cores are parked/disabled:

Open up windows task manager > Click on the 'performance tab' at the top > at the bottom click on 'open resource monitor' > click on the 'CPU' tab at the top > On the right you will see graphs. Make sure at the top of each graph where it says at "CPU 0", CPU 1 etc.. and make sure it does NOT say "CPU 0 - Parked".

Look at this video too:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fKxZ1mq9KA

If any of the cores state they are parked or greyed out, do this:
Go to control panel > click on 'hardware and sound' > then 'power options' > then select 'high performance'.
If you can't find it then click on the 'hide additional plans' tab and it should be there.

4. Make sure you're Monitor is plugged into your GPU and not motherboard, you don't want to be running on integrated graphics!

5. Uninstall your driver using DDU:
Download: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uni...

How to use it: hit clean and restart and ensure you download the correct driver after!

6. Download Speccy and see if your all your parts are there and are functional, also check the temperature.
http://filehippo.com/download_speccy/

7. Take out the RAM and play games with each individual one. If the performance is better then you know the RAM taken out is faulty

8. Try this:

Hoped I helped!

As I wrote in the OP I think I've tried everything I could've thought of. Cores are unparked drivers are latest, used DDU. Clocks/Temps in check, monitor is plugged in the GPU. Performance is set on both windows power and nvidia control panel. I've tried everything apart from trying each ram individually which is what I'm gonna do now to see if there's any difference. I don't know how reliable the userbenchmark is but it showed that hardware is performing as expected apart from maybe RAM. So I'll go try that out now and will post the result later.

I tested The Witcher 3 and Titanfall 2. The witcher 3 with hairworks off - high shadow - high grass high foliage visibility range- else ultra - gets stable 38 fps. Game is playable but I saw a youtube video with FX 6300 same card same settings gets stable 60 fps. Titanfall 40-45 stable high settings. Something is off and I don't know how to check where the problem is. Here's the userbenchmark again http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/4679708.

I don't know where to look.
