Hey guys, I am considering to chance my internet provider from XFINITY to AT&T. Currently, we are using XFINITY Blast! Internet package (cable connection). Here's my current information:

1. Resident house with 6 people.
2. West of Chicago, IL area (Naperville, IL)
3. Blast! package have about 130 Mbps. (28 ping, 51 Mbps download, 12 Mbps upload - Ookla)
4. Using this modem: NETGEAR C7000100NAS, Serial Number: 2C3033BBF948
5. $175 for both internet and TV. Not sure how much is the internet alone...

The reason I am looking for new provider is that Comcast keep on having issues with their internet where it gets disconnected, AND have VERY unstable ping. Note I called Comcast and they confirmed disconnection is from Comcast, not due to my modem, computer, etc.

What AT&T is offering:

1. Fiber internet connection with 25 Mbps
2. $40 for just internet itself + $100 fiber cable installation fee
3. Must use AT&T Uverse modem

Given the situation, does it make sense to switch to AT&T? It looks like it will be cheaper, but with slower download speed. My main concern is stable internet connection with great ping. If you guys have any other recommendation, I am open to the recommendations as well.

Thanks all for reading the long thread!

Hold off for now. Why?

"Comcast keep on having issues with their internet where it gets disconnected, AND have VERY unstable ping. Note I called Comcast and they confirmed disconnection is from Comcast, not due to my modem, computer, etc."

Ping is not, in my viewpoint, a reliable measure of service/performance.

And there does not truly seem to be some indication that Comcast/Xfinity vs AT&T will make a difference.

Start by taking a close look at the Comcast/Xfinity cables coming into your home. Look for corrosion, animal chews, cable kinks/hard bends, splitters that are damaged or corroded. Any physical issues.

Modem/Router: Check the logs (if available and enabled) for errors and warnings.

Before switching to another ISP...

Before switching to another ISP provider you must be sure that the existing infrastructure (cables, connectors, devices) is not the problem.

Keep working with Comcast. Keep calling/complaining. Keep notes and documentation about when you call and who you speak with. The hope being that you find someone knowledgeable enough and empowered enough to actually fix things.
