Help before I RMA my HDD

I recently ordered an extra 1TB of SeaGate Barracuda HDD (OS is on SSD and I have another WD 1TB for primary storage). Upon installation, my computer failed to recognize the HDD until after two restarts. Once it recognized it, I went to Disk Management to format/partition the disk. After reaching 55%, it would trigger an error stating "The disk could not be formatted/partitioned" and the disk would disappear from the list. I'm not sure if these are common issues and if there are any remedies, but at this point I would just feel more comfortable RMA'ing it for a refund or a replacement.

I want to make sure that before I send it back in, that the HDD is still perfectly clean even after being 55% formatted (or, since there was an error at the 55% mark, does it revert so that 0% was formatted?). I just want to be sure that no personal files mistakenly were moved, copied, etc to the new HDD. I would like to think that this is not even possible seeing as how 1). The disk wasn't even fully formatted and 2). the disk does not even show up under "This PC > Devices and drives" with my other C: and E: disks. Yes, I'm paranoid.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

If you just got the drive and couldn't get it to work I see no way any of your files could have gotten on the drive. You could try unhooking all your drive but the new one. Try to install windows on it to delete the partion and format the drive. Maybe windows would then work with the drive. This or see if its damaged to the point no data can be added or removed.
Try changing sata cables and motherboard sata port for the HD. Check in bios to see if its detected and then use seatools to check the drive.

Run smart, self test, and generic to see the issue.

Yeah, I used different SATA cables and had no improvements.

I will try deleting the partition and starting over again.

Any answers on my main question about having files mistakenly moved, if that's even possible?

Upon following SBMfromLA's solution, I received these errors again:

I've done both of the recommendations and still receive the same errors.
