CPU error LED lit after forced shutdown

I had to force my computer to shut down last weekend after it took too long to shut down itself, and ever since it has refused to boot. The CPU and case fans spin and my GPUs light up, but the red EZ debug LED for the CPU is lit up, and nothing ever shows on screen.

I've tried removing the CMOS battery to restart the BIOS, but the problem persists. I've been told a forced shutdown shouldn't be able to damage hardware, and I'd really like to avoid having to RMA my CPU, but I don't really see a solution to this problem beyond switching out the CPU (i5-6500, if that matters). I get really anxious picking around inside the PC, and don't have any thermal compound (or the nerves) for reinstalling the fan.

Please, can somebody tell me what's wrong? I'm losing out on valuable gaming time and mining profits, and I'm getting really depressed seeing my beautiful PC like this.
