Hello everyone !
I'm in a hard situation and I need your help.
I bought 6 months ago the samsung 960 PRO 1GB.
(I installed it in a DELL XPS 9550)

Today during an intensive 4k video editing, the pc froze then gave me a blue screen.
After rebooting, a dell page told me that there was no hard drive.
Now when I reboot, the pc is no longer able to go to the bios screen, I just have a black page. If I remove the ssd and insert another one, the pc works correctly.

1. the fact that the ssd prevents the boot (and heats) lets me think that it is dead but do you have any suggestions to try to recover my data?
2. Is it possible to connect a ssd nvme to usb to test it ?
3. do samsung hardware purchased online have a warranty and do I have to contact samsung or the shopping website ?
4. samsung provides a diagnostic tool that runs on linux. : Https://static.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/344640.pdf
Is it worth trying to install linux on a usb key if the disk is no longer recognized ?

I'm really disapointed with this drive, I don't understand what happened and I can't find other topics talking about a crash like that with a nvme drive !

Thank you in advance for your help !
regards
Anthony

If you can't read the disk in a system, it is impossible for you to get the data back unless you had backups. If not, you just learned why you need to keep backups. You can contact a data recovery shop and see what their cost may be for getting data off the drive.

Yes you can use the drive with an external enclosure but you will need an adapter kit for M.2 to SATA.

As long as you bought the drive from an authorized reseller you can use the warranty.

If the computer can't even see the disk in the BIOS, Linux will not see it either.

Disk happen often enough that you need to prepare for them, that is why it's always important to do backups of your files and make sure you have the means to recover from a failure with restore disks and programs you need to use.

thank you !
will try the data recovery service, and then try to get a replacement using the warranty.
I have backups in the cloud but not for everything :(
I could not find anyone else having the same issue so it's hard to guess what's the problem :(
the data recovering on such drive is really expensive. I wish for the cost of this drive to get something more durable than 6 months !

I just had this problem, last night the computer was working fine, today I turned it on and wouldn't even POST, NO VIDEO, NO BOOT issue, I thought it was the motherboard, but after troubleshooting with Alienware support, we found out that the problem was with the M.2 Samsung 960 PRO I paid $300 for this and it lasted only 8 months
