I Currently have 2 corsair vengeance 4gb RAMs (1600 Mhz) with latency of 9 and voltage of 1.5 (Model no : cmz4gx3m1a1600c9). I would like to add another 8gb of ram, will corsair vengeance 8GB RAM (1600 Mhz) with latency of 10 and voltage of 1.5 (cmz8gx3m1a1600c10) go along with my existing sticks ??

i want to make sure whether mixing a 8gb ram with 2 4gb rams will work or not, also the latency for the 8gb model is 10 whereas the 4gb ones have a latency of 9.

Currently i have installed the 4gb rams in alternative slots, so if i buy the 8gb one, i can install it on either of the two remaining slots right ? (Motherboard model : asus m5afx99 pro 2.0)

Solution
You have a better chance with 2kits of 2x4gb with the same timings working together then mixing an 8 with 2x4gb with different timings. Gaming now is just starting to break the 8GB range so 16GB will be fine. If your doing work related stuff that needs 16GB or more then i would move to a 2x8GB set so you have room to expand in the future.
There are a lot of things that could go wrong and this is why most people will tell you to buy a kit.

1 your 2x4 kit is running in dual channel mode right now. Adding a single stick will make the board (if able) to run in a hybrid single/dual channel, or if not able it will run everything in single channel.
2 Even since the ram is coming form the same manufacture (Corsair) the 4gb and 8gb sticks might be using different chips and could cause issues.
3 mixing CL numbers is ok but all 3 sticks will run at the slower CL10 timings of the new 8GB stick.
4 you will put more stress/heat on the cpu by running 3 or 4 sticks rather then 2.

what if i buy 2 4gb ram (1600 Mhz , model no : cmz4gx3m1a1600c9 ) and fit it in two remaining slots instead of the above specified
8gb ram model cmz8gx3m1a1600c10 ????

Iam pretty confused on what to do here ....
1) buy 2 4gb models of same type
2) 8gb model of latency 10 (was not able to find one which had latency 9 here in India)

if i go with option 1 then i cannot go beyond 16gb of ram in total in the future unless i sell my 4gb sticks

what are chances of it working if i mix the above mentioned 4gb model and 8gb ram model ?
its ok for me if they run in single channel and at an latency of 10 , i guess the performance impact won't be noticeable
