A week ago I purchased a new ryzen 5 1500x with an am4 mobo, to my amazement while working in a field I found an old box with a i7 7600 processor, and a z170 gaming mobo. Should I keep the one I purchased so that it is more future proof, or install the i7, or sell the i7 and mobo to get a better ryzen?
Thanks,

Nothing is future proof.

They don't make a i7 7600 desktop chip. So I assume it is a i7 7700. It may be a 7700k since it is paired with a z170 motherboard which is even better. The i7 7700k is the best gaming chip on the market today. So if you want the best gaming performance, than keep the 7700k. If you want to edit videos or stream as well as game, then sell it and get a ryzen 7

Sorry it was a 6700

The i7 6700 is plain better than a ryzen 1500x.

6700 > 1500x.

The suggestion of selling both (or returning your AMD cpu and selling the intel stuff) and getting a ryzen 1700 is a very good one as well if you do anything more with your rig than gaming.

The 1700 will be more "future proof" (as much as anything technology can ever really be) then the i7.
