Build for a friend

A friend of mine would like to get into PC gaming so I plan on building a system out of the parts I have laying around (marked $0 on list). The games he intends on playing are BF4, Dark Souls 3 & some MMO's. I think the i3 paired with the GTX 780 6gb is plenty for those games however I'm open to other ideas. He will be gaming on a 4K/60hz HDTV but will probably scale it down to 1440P or 1080P depending on performance.

Any input is appreciated. I would also consider a used market but would want it to be local (western MA, US.)

Also max budget is around $300 (give or take $20).

I have bought a lot of stuff on eBay and I have not had any problems. Just make sure you choose a seller with a good rep. Most have a return policy as well.

As for the Ryzen 1200, you will get better performance from the i5. You would need to go with a Ryzen 5 to meet or surpass the i5 performance. So I would go with the cheaper option.

It is not a bad system, but I would not go with the i3. Considering that a bunch of new CPUs have been released this your, he might be able to find a good deal on a i5 4690k. I see some for around $150 on ebay. I would go that route for a better system.

When I get home I'll check ebay for the 4690K as it would be a much better CPU plus I could always overclock it. ebay covers me if the product is broken or defective right? I never'd bought anything from ebay before :p . Another option which would stay within budget is the 4460 if I went new.

I've also considered kicking in some cash for him to get this, then I would overclock the CPU to 3.8 (or better).
