Hello everyone,

I have an Asus M5A78L-M LX3 motherboard and an AMD FX-8150 Black Edition CPU which would be fantastic if it would work and it would extremely ease my situation but that's why I'm here.

My motherboard supports AM3+ socket CPU's, and the AMD FX-8150 is an AM3+ socket processor, and as the site for the motherboard and the CPU state, it should work but it's not working. When I've put the CPU in my motherboard, the computer powered on and everything but I didn't get an image on the screen or lights on the keyboard indicating the CPU isn't working right. I then researched as much in depth as I could and I found two lists which say that the AMD FX-8150 Black Edition specifically isn't compatible.

I've heard people running CPU's that supposedly weren't supposed to be compatible with the motherboard, so what could I do to be able to run it. So far, and, what I've researched, I'm thinking about flashing my bios to a newer or other version so maybe that will make it work but I don't know anything else I could do. Compared to my current CPU, this is a beast and I really, really want to get it working so, does anyone know how I could do it?

Solution
Your Motherboard supports:
AMD AM3+ FX™/Phenom™ II/Athlon™ II/Sempron™ 100 Series Processors
Supports CPU up to 95 W
AMD Cool 'n' Quiet™ Technology

The 8150 is a 125 Watt CPU.
It's not the CPU list, so it's really quite simple, it's will not work. As above 95W vs 125W is the root of the problem. The socket type AM3+ is not the only consideration, the VRM capacity is also a consideration. In my opinion they should have been called AM3+95 and AM3+125, and maybe even +160. Where the number states the max wattage, so you can run below, but not above.
