Solution
1) Yes, the i7-860 will bottleneck many games.

2) GTX1050Ti is still a great choice to upgrade that system.

3) Upgrading anything else unless minor makes little sense. The CPU is also about the best for that SOCKET.

4) Be careful choosing games that your CPU is sufficient. Dayz and PUBG may not be good choices due to the requirements (in big part due to optimization).

5) i7-860 performance: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-860+%40+2.80GHz&id=6
- per core lower than an FX-4300 (1407)
- *Best choices is older games, less demanding games, or possibly some MODERN games that can utilize enough of the eight threads to perform acceptably

6) "Can I Play It" is okay rough guide
- other rule-of-thumb is make sure CPU is...

- other rule-of-thumb is make sure CPU is above minimum recommendation by more than a small amount
- can look at benchmarks using the FX-6300 then assume your FPS could be only 70% or so. hard to guess exactly.

He got 45-60FPS when NOT recording using the LOW settings. (PUBG)

GTX1050Ti is just SLIGHTLY better than a GTX960, however your CPU is not as good as the FX-4300 but either way this game looks unplayable even if you get the GTX1050Ti.

LOTS of great games that would work with an i7-860 + GTX1050Ti though. In general, avoid anything modern that is graphically intensive. Probably most MMO's (online) as that would likely stress the CPU too much as well.

DOOM should work great and you should get a solid 60FPS with nice graphics once you tweak the settings (just an example). It's a bit of an EXCEPTION as it's very well optimized using VULKAN.

DOOM runs great on i7-860 (GTX670 is just below GTX1050Ti).

GTX1050Ti: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/wrmxFT/evga-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-4gb-acx-20-video-card-04g-p4-6251-kr

Likely no POWER issues if desktop PSU is 300W+.

1) run DDU to remove any video drivers (do the safe mode option):
http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

2) finish then shut down PC

3) if any video card remove.

4) fully insert the GTX1050Ti into the top x16 slot, screw down.

5) Monitor cable to the new card (no VGA support possible except separate active adapter)

6) Start up, download NVidia drivers (from NVidia driver site for your Windows version), then install

No UEFI bios might be an issue with newer Nvidia cards. Otherwise the 1050 Ti is the best option. The problem here is that a 1050 Ti is only going to be worth it for the relatively small niche of games that can use 4gb vram but don't require a newer CPU than what you have. Personally, I do not believe you will enjoy games like PUBG with that CPU. So if it were me I'd pick up a 2gb 460/560/1050(whichever is least expensive) and play the games that they can handle. Part of being a low budget gamer is knowing and accepting that some games just won't play well on your system. Focusing on the latest popular AAA game and budget gaming are not compatible.
