Hello everyone. SO today i built my new pc . specs are :

cpu: ryzen 5 1600
mobo: msi grenade a230
ram: corsair lpx ddr4
gpu: sapphire 7950

So i built it , connected ALL the cables , double checked them , and then booted the pc.all the fans of the case , gpu and cooler run.
but the screen just stays black and at the ez debug leds the cpu one is red.

What should i do to fix this problem?

EDIT:

I have taken out the cmos for 30 sec and put it back in. Now the cpu led is gone but all other 3 leds are red.

Solution
Should be more than enough. Was that PSU used in a prior build? If so I would try a spare if you've got a friend that will let you try theirs or something. I've had trouble where I was working on a system, move it to another floor to work on it(I work IT helpdesk), so literally taking it from the user's desk a floor down to my desk. Ran fine at their desk, and wouldn't power up at my desk, turned out to be a power supply issue, just moving it for whatever reason made the difference if the power supply was on the edge of going out for whatever reason.

I only have 1 ram stick. And its compatible with both mobo and the cpu

Try moving your RAM to the other slot. You have power running to your system, but it is not posting, and typically that is due to RAM.

Your system has a dual channel memory controller and sometimes it does not work well with only one stick of RAM because it needs 2 to run in dual channel.

Ryzen also has RAM compatibility problems as well even though they have been largely addressed through bios updates. You have good RAM though and it should be supported by your board. Compare your model number of RAM to the model number on the compatibility list on the link below for your board.

Hi thanks for your answer. i tried moving my ram to another slot. Still nothing. And i checked the compatibilty list and my ram is in there

I don't suppose you have another set of DDR4 memory laying around to test? I suspect that your issue here is the single stick of RAM. Your system is designed to run in dual channel and sometimes (most of the times it does) it just does not work with one stick. If you can, I would exchange the RAM at the store for a 2x4gb RAM kit.

I thought you said that you cleared the CMOS and the LEDs came on. I looked in your mobo manual and it says these LED indicate the status of the motherboard. I am assuming if the LED is on for the CPU it means that the CPU is not detected. Check the CPU to make sure it is installed right. Look at the pins? You may have bent a pin installing it.

I have checked the cpu pins and none are bent

Just for the sake of argument...leave the ram out totally, then try to power it up and see if you get any beep codes. You may also have a doa board. You did check to be sure you plugged in the cpu power cables as well right? That's a rookie mistake. Even after years I still do that lol.

Also, did you plug in the power cables for the video card? May want to reseat the card to make sure you don't have issues from that side.

Worst case, you might go to like best buy or microcenter and get a kit of ddr4 2400 and try that ram to see if it starts up. As was stated, some folks have had issues, ryzen can be picky about ram.

Hi. I have tried leaving the ram out but nothing happend. And yes all cables were plugged in :p

Hm. If the ram is on the qvl and nothing without ram(assuming you have cmos speaker plugged in), I'm leaning toward doa board. Where did you purchase from? If from a microcenter, they have a 15 day return policy. I actually built a Ryzen 1200 system, and am taking all my parts back and trading up to the 1600 and a B350 board myself:).

I bought it from a webshop here in the netherlands. So if its a doa board , what should i do. contact that webshop or msi?

Check their website first. I know like most places in the USA have a 15 day or 30 day return period. So see what policy they have. If you get no satisfaction, then I'd contact MSI for warranty support as it should have a warranty of some kind. If you have a local store that carries it, you may buy a ddr4 2400 kit to try in it to see if you can boot it. Or if you have anyone that has a pc repair shop, maybe take it there. It may be if they have some slower ddr4 on hand, if they can get the system to boot, they might be able to update the bios to the latest version that would allow your ram to work. Although doing that would cost more money.

It very well could be damaged hardware, but I have found from my experience that more often than not it is a user error or a compatibility issue and the hardware is not faulty.

I appreciate where you are coming from. But it does happen. The fact he's not getting beep codes with no ram installed is what makes me wonder.

As I said, if he has access to another ram kit, it might be a good idea to try a known good kit of ram in case. Ryzen is known to have memory compatibilty issues at the moment, though it's been getting better.

Op, dumb question, have you cleared the CMOS? If not, check your manual. You should also be able to pull the battery for a few minutes, give it about 10-15 minutes with the cmos battery out to get a similar effect. Not as much recently, but in times past, I've seen systems that didn't want to post until you first cleared the cmos on the board.

Also, reseat your graphics card and ram as well.

The final thought that comes to mind, I see no mention of what PSU is being used. You might try a different power supply. I've seen them half failed to the point they would spin fans and look like power is going through the board, but not actually be able to make it post. So if you have access to a different power supply, pursue that as well to be safe.

Well i reseated everything and also took out the cmos for about 20 minutes but no effect. The psu i use is the corsair 650x
