I bought my laptop around 2011 February, which is a Sony vaio VPCEB46FG model. It comes with built in Intel graphics as well as AMD ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 5650 1gb ddr3 gfx card.

I had some 2013 version driver from SONY VAIO website for amd gfx.

I recently got Norton Anti virus for 5 devices which includes my laptop too. Apparently the norton which set well with my Desktop didn't install properly on my laptop. The norton was installed and ns.exe was running in the processes of windows task manager but I can't see any window or any icon in the tray after trying lot of tries with different methods I was fed up and contacted norton themselves and asked help

They took remote of my laptop and did the cycles themselves once or twice. They finally informed me with no improvement compared to my own results that the norton is indeed working but the problem is being caused because 4 years old graphics driver. And that I should contact my own tech support.

Apparently there is no "my own tech support". I started trying to update to my gfx driver on laptop to some of the newer versions, and there was quite a few versions in AMD site for my gfx card. But, when I tried them they came up with the error that my previous driver is not digitally signed.

After much digging I found that the drivers weren't digitally signed because the sony opted out of AMD driver updates and they made their own driver updates for the amd cards in their laptops which apparently gave the final version to be 2013 the one I had already installed earlier. And I can't install much later drivers from AMD site because of this.

So, I figured maybe I remove the driver once it for all and get amd driver straight instead of upgrading to AMD from sony's non signed driver. Since my laptop mother board had built in graphics i deleted sony's amd driver and tried at direct installation of amd driver. (I did face another issue here where I have windows home premium which made it impossible to switch off force driver sign check option and also that windows kept re installing sonys driver every time i uninstall that and reboot. ) Either way when I tried amd catalyst control center installation along with latest driver from amd. It says "failed to load driver detection"

I completely uninstalled previous driver as well deleted amd folder in C drive. And this is where I am currently stuck.

Solution that worked for me :

I upgraded to free Windows 10 which gave me access to disable automatic driver install and helped me override my amd corruption. I installed latest version of catalyst center but got oldest original driver from sony vaio 2010 and Norton Anti virus started working as well as I am getting decent dota gfx as well as OS upgrade. So I am satisfied with what I have now considering this laptop was bought in february of 2011
