Steam and hot swap storage

Basically I have different computers with different species. I was thinking of getting a 2tb ssd and putting all games on it then put it in the main system then say I need to leave I'll pull it out take it with me and say I pull out the laptop plug it in say 3.0 or something and use that as the game drive will this work between computers and have all game saves as well or will there be problems with that say different specks and what not causes problems or steam doesn't want you to

If you store the steam directory there itself and run it on each computer it should be fine for the most part. Just don't use a steamapp folder in this situation and make sure that steam isn't autoloading as Windows trying to load a hotswap stored application will lead to annoying error messages at bootup.

As for your saves.... This would be a game to game issue. As depending on the developer the saves could be in the steam application directory. It could be in a folder inside your documents folder. It could be in your appdata folder. It could also be on the companies servers (online / or singleplayer online drm games). Of course steam does having their cloud saves for games that support it so that can help with this issue, but it is...
