This will be my first time replacing a cpu I just wanted to know if there is anything special you have to do before or after replacing a cpu?

Be sure that you are buying the correct CPU for your Motherboard
and do check if your board supports it or not

What is your motherboard, and what is your new cpu?
The one thing I would be very careful about is inserting the new cpu into the socket.
Do not smoosh it around trying to seat it.
If you do, you may damage the socket pins.
Just drop it in using the notches to confirm proper orientation.
Windows should recognize the new processor properly.
