My Geforce GTX 970 of 2 years has given up. Right now, I'm in the market, looking to upgrade. I was recommeneded the GTX 1050ti, so I looked up pricing, and thought it was a fair bargain. However, after some research, reading forum posts and watching video comparissons, I've come to the conclusion that if I were to buy the GTX 1050ti, in terms of power, I would actually be downgrading.

I see my predicament as an oportunity to improve my current hardware. The idea of buying another GTX 970 doesn't really apeal to me, I would rather buy a card from the 1000 series, but only if it provides me with better peformance than the 970.

From my GTX 970, which card from the 1000 series could be considered an upgrade?

You killed a 970? What happened to it? What card was it just out of curiosity? That is not really normal it should last much longer than 2 years.

The 1050 ti would certainly be a downgrade. The 1060 6gb trades blows with the 970 in some games but overall the 1060 performs a bit better. If you want a noticeable upgrade in performance from your 970 the 1070 would be your best bet.

The GeForce GTX 970 has around 1.44x the performance of a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti so it would be a serious downgrade.

The GeForce GTX 1060 6GB has around 1.13x the performance of a GeForce GTX 970 so it would be a slight upgrade.

A GeForce GTX 1070 would have around 1.55x the performance of a GeForce GTX 970 so it would be a substantial increase in performance. Unfortunately there is a shortage of GeForce GTX 1070 cards due to the recent cryptocurrency mining craze that has resulted in price gouging.

the 1060 6gb trades blows with the GTX980, and beats the 970 in practically every game.

what to upgrade to, depends on a few other variables. Like your CPU, what games your playing and at what res.

Agree though, the 1050ti is a downgrade on the 970.

I have no idea! One second, I was playing Metal Gear Solid V, a very well optimized game, and the next, my computer shuts down! It wasn't until I removed the GPU that I was able to boot it up.

I made a post about this, and it was suggest it could be my PSU.
